How is my language?

Hehe this week at Sweet Shoppe Designs, we were asked to do a quiz about our language. Here's my results:

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

The Midland

North Central

The South

Boston

The Inland North

The Northeast

Philadelphia

Rest in peace Dr. Hansen

I was surfing the web and I accidentally came across the obituary of my OB/GYN Dr. Elden Keith Hansen. This man treated me during my pregnancies and he delivered all three of my babies. I was so shocked to read that he passed away unexpectedly. Even though my child bearing years are over, it still saddens me to know that this wonderful man isn't helping other expectant moms like he helped me.

He was a man of compassion with a never ending desire to serve his patients. One thing that will always stand in my mind about him is that when I was in labor with my youngest child four weeks early, I wanted to ask him a question and the nurse told me that he was in his office praying about me and my baby. I will never forget that for as long as I live. To know that this man was on his knees praying about me and the welfare of my baby, it truly touches me.

HansenDr. Elden Keith Hansen, MD 1939 ~ 2008 With great sadness, we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, physician, and friend. Elden Keith Hansen died Saturday, May 10, 2008 at his home in Sandy, Utah. The son of Elden James Hansen and Elsie Louise Blackham, Keith was born on November 9, 1939 in Provo, Utah. He graduated from Murray High School in 1958, where he served as student body historian. While in high school, Keith excelled in both academics and athletics, competing in debate and football. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the West German Mission from 1960-1963. Upon his return, he continued his education at the University of Utah, receiving his B.A. in German in 1966. He then attended Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, receiving his M.D. in 1972. He completed his medical training with a residency in OB/GYN at the University of Utah in 1976. During his professional career, Keith served as the Chief of Staff for Alta View Hospital and was later instrumental in the creation of the Alta View Woman's Center. Keith was a loved and respected physician, always providing his patients with the highest degree of care. During his thirty-two years of practice, he delivered more than 10,000 babies. Keith married his sweetheart and best friend, Edyth Ann Walton, on June 19, 1964, in the Salt Lake Temple. A devoted and faithful husband, he loves his wife with all his heart. Together they have six children and fifteen grandchildren. Keith loves his family dearly and dedicated his life to their happiness. His greatest joys were spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He enjoyed BYU football and Jazz basketball with his family. He left for his children a legacy of love, learning, faith, kindness, and generosity. Keith was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities within the church. At the time of his passing, he was an instructor in the Oak Grove Ward High Priest Group. Keith had a great love for the people of Germany, returning often to the country where he served as a missionary. His generous and kind nature earned him the love and respect of people everywhere. He was never afraid to stand up for the underdog and was always willing to share his time, talents, and resources to help those in need. He will be greatly missed. Keith is survived by his wife, Edyth of Sandy; his six children, Kathy (Kenny) of Snowflake, AZ; Lora (Mat) of Houston, TX; Jodie of Sandy; Erik (Kristen) of Oakton, VA; Brad (Katie) of American Fork; and Keith (Mandy) of Las Vegas; fifteen grandchildren, and his sister, Gerry (Keith) of Murray. So rest in peace dear Dr. Hansen. You touched my life and I will never ever forget you.

I love this LO because it came together so nicely. I just kept adding more and more to it and I really like how it turned out. It's also the LO in my gallery that has gotten a lot of attention. LOL I love comments, and this one sure has gotten it. It also makes me smile because it has my favorite bad boys of tv on it! LOL

I'm country music

This week at Sweet Shoppe Designs, we were asked to see what kind of music we are. I am country music. Is it any surprise? LOL

You Are Country Music
You are friendly, down to earth, and fairly conservative.
You are true to your friends and your upbringing. Change is hard for you.
But beneath your old fashioned attitude, you are expressive and artistic in your own way.
Very few people can express pain and pleasure as eloquently as you can.

I've been busy this week deep cleaning my house to get ready for school which begins in one glorious month. LOL It's not that I don't love having my kids home, but I'm just tired of hearing them complain about how bored they are. LOL

I'm gonna go and get back to my cleaning. I'm almost finished with the office. I'm slowed down by the fact that we're painting that room. =)

Summer jobs

This week at Sweet Shoppe Designs, we were asked to talk about summer jobs. I didn't really have a summer job until I graduated from high school. We always went to California for a month and my parents didn't want us to be tied down to a job.

For two summers at my aunt's house, I taught her daycare kids how to swim. At the beginning of our time, she asked her parents if they wanted me to teach their kids to swim - so I was able to make a little money on that by teaching swimming.

After I graduated from high school, I got a job at a convenience/souvenir store near the beach. This place was called Ernie's Corner and I worked there three summers. It was great and good money. I loved working there and was promoted to head cashier my last summer. Sometimes I miss working out there and hanging out at the beach. =)

In other news, I am peri-menopausal and anemic. Oh joy! LOL I haven't even had any energy this week to scrap and that is BAD!! LOL But, I am feeling really good today, and I am gonna get some Sweet Shoppe challenges done!!

Favorite vacation spot

This week at Sweet Shoppe Designs, we were prompted to discuss our favorite vacation spot. Since we've been married, the only real vacation that we've been on is our honeymoon. Usually, when we take a trip, it's to see family in other states. I guess our favorite spot would be Quintana beach near my parents home in Texas or Lake Tahoe near our old home in Reno.

We always have a great time because we're with family. We really would love to take our kids to Disneyland. My aunt lives a few blocks away and she would love us to come visit her. Perhaps we'll do that in the fall when the park isn't so busy.

This week has been quiet. The girls are at young women camp. It's only been Zakk and I here. Steve is in northern California mapping a fire. So, it's been nice and quiet. Tonight is our monthly scrapbook night. Not sure I'm going to go though since Steve isn't here. These nights usually last until midnight, and I don't want to leave my kids home alone for six hours. Anyway, have a great weekend.

What do fireworks say about me?

LOL I absolutely HATE fireworks. I think it's because I am a little hard of hearing, so when those are going, it's impossible for me to hear anything. LOL Anyway, here's the results from my fireworks test:

What Your These Fireworks Say About You
You are focused, single minded, and intense.
You don't let others see your intensity often, and when they do, they are quite surprised.

You burn brightly, but you also burn steadily.
You have the endurance to get the one thing you desire most.

All about birthdays

Ok, this week at Sweet Shoppe Designs, we were prompted to talk about birthdays. Which one do we remember the most? Which one was more special? I must say that each of my birthdays has been memorable. But, there are four that stand out in my mind.

16th: This is the big one for a Mormon girl. In the church, we believe that young people shouldn't date until they are 16 years old. So, naturally, this one was a BIG one for me because it meant that I could now date. I dated a nice young man from school named Glen. He was a nice guy and we had a lot of fun. And, he drove a mustang! LOL

20th: This one was big for me because it meant that I was no longer an adolescent. I was an adult. I could now vote. This one was a little sad for me, because eight months later, I would be married and I would no longer be my daddy's little girl. I know I always will be, but this birthday somehow made it feel that I wasn't.

30th: I thought this one was fun! I had three children and my baby making days were behind me. I made a goal not to have babies after 30. It meant that one part of my life was over and the fun part was beginning - raising my young children. My youngest was only seven months old when I turned 30.

40th: For a month before, I was dreading this birthday. But, when the day finally came, it was just like any other day, except that I got a cake and dinner. LOL I thought that being 40 was going to be hard, but it hasn't been. It's just a rite of passage to being a human being. I am proud to be 4o because after all - 40 is the new 20. LOL

Well, that's it for now. Been scrapping lately, but I don't want to post LOs just now. Our family reunion ended up being quite wonderful and I had a lot of fun. My kids had fun with their cousins and DH had a nice time with his parents and siblings. I'll post some photos later. We're going to be going to Utah this weekend for my nephew Jon's baptism. I can't believe he's eight already! Time sure flies!
